Nir > A huge communist monument, a present to the people of Poland from Stalin, towers over the Jerusalem Boulevard. The Poles hate the building and say that its most beautiful vantage point is atop the antenna on the roof from where you cannot see the building itself. The building was built in the center of the new city and a bustling commercial center has evolved around it. Click on photo to enlarge

Nir > The city streets are flooded with peddlers trying to sell their goods for a few Zlotys. The city attracts both the Polish elite and the desperate. Over 40% of the Polish economy is still government controlled and traditional communist bureaucracy still exists. Click on photo to enlarge
Nir > The younger generation worships capitalism – you will rarely meet someone under 25 that does not have several jobs, tries to study simultaneously, surfs the Internet and speaks a little English.
